What is Strength?

IMG_9687.JPG

Is strength a physical measure? A feat to be measured by relative or absolute totals and accomplishments? Is strength a state of mind? A power of will and resolute posture? Is strength a place of emotional stability? A capacity to measure perspective with consistent balance?

The current global climate makes us deeply question our individual, social and cultural parameters of strength, courage and identity. Many are falling apart, some are getting by, others are yet in denial and a few are, in fact, getting stronger.

Our posture and position of strength from our very foundation is not one of individual body, mind or even spirit, but an embodiment and conduit of a Power beyond the human essence or self. Point One was established on the common denominator of essential need inbuilt to the human soul - a gap only filled by the pursuit of living like and for Jesus Christ.

We all need something. The human cannot function in its intended capacity alone. For this reason, self-love and self-service are nothing more than a trap to captivate ourselves in a lie of self-centeredness that is isolating and defeating, though it may elicit great sensation of pleasure in the seeking. The essential perspective in finding strength is first, to know where one is weak. Our fundamental weakness is that we cannot self sustain and this means that neither can anyone else.

When you recognize this need in yourself, you inherently begin to see it in others. This juncture is the place from which service begins and as we begin to help fulfill the needs of others, our gifts become refined, fortified and strengthened. Strength, then, comes from service before all else.

In the controversy of the moment, what will you choose? Will you bury yourself in the escape or in political argument? For what will you take a stance? As the earth cries out and mountains crumble, we encourage you to give endlessly, give with mercy and give from the spirit of Christ.

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” II Corinthians‬ ‭12:9, 10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
